White Edges Blue on PKs in Girls’ V Soccer

Following 70 minutes of scoreless action, the first event in Mercersburg’s girls’ varsity soccer Blue/White Series went to the White Team by a 5-3 decision in a penalty-kick shootout October 17 on Steiger Field.

Each team made its first three attempts in the shootout, with Kate Prentiss ’21, Jolie Viener ’21, and Chantler Newton ’21 converting for the White Team, and Emma Hobbs ’23, Caroline Wilkinson ’23, and Cate Vickery ’22 scoring for the Blue Team. After Susan Concordia ’22 scored for the White Team to make it 4-3, White goalkeeper Sammy Titus ’23 saved a shot by the Blue Team's Nora Smith ’24, and Lucy Bowman ’21 clinched the win for the White by converting her attempt.

Titus and Blue Team keeper Caroline Simpson ’22 both recorded shutouts in regulation.

The second game in the series is scheduled for Saturday, October 24.
