Volleyball Defeated by Lawrenceville
Less than 24 hours after a tough five-set victory, Mercersburg’s varsity volleyball team couldn't rally against a tough Lawrenceville squad, falling to the Big Red by a 3–0 score October 9 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium (25–16, 26–24, 25–22).
After struggling in the first set, the Blue Storm played with more urgency in the second, holding the lead late, but ultimately dropping a close one in extra points. The third set was more back and forth, but again it went to the end with Lawrenceville eking out the victory.
Finn Sipes had four kills and five assists to lead the offense, and also added a team-best 18 digs. "She was all over the court as the setter, keeping the ball in play," said Mercersburg interim head coach Erin Caretti. Riley Schermerhorn ’22 had three kills and three solo blocks, Natalie Kochova ’22 posted six aces, four kills, and 12 digs. Ava Brody ’22 had 12 digs, and Priscilla Lee ’23 contributed nine digs in some solid minutes off the bench.
The Storm (7–6) hosts McConnellsburg High School Tuesday, October 12, at 6 p.m.
