Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Mercersburg’s varsity volleyball team picked up a much-needed victory October 15 by knocking off the Fulton County ‘Serve’ivors Volleyball Club, 3-1 in a match played in Needmore, Pa. After dropping the first set 25-16, the Blue Storm rallied to take three straight sets (25-8, 25-20, 25-16) and claim the win.

Finn Sipes ’22 showed great leadership in rallying the Storm to a decisive second-set win. While the final score in the third and fourth sets was competitive, the outcome was never really in doubt due to the hitting of Annika Stewart ’21 and the serving of Stewart and Morgan Fisher ’23.

Stewart had seven kills and nine aces, while Fisher chipped in five kills and six aces (Fisher also started the second set on a 13-serve run.) Zoe Gooch ’20 posted a team-high eight kills, and Sipes had seven kills, 20 assists, four aces, and nine digs.

Mercersburg (6-7) hosts National Cathedral School Saturday, October 19, for a Family Weekend matchup at 1 p.m. in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium.
