Mercersburg’s varsity volleyball team improved to 2-0 in 2019 with a 3-0 blanking of visiting Friends School of Baltimore September 10 in the Plantz Courts of Nolde Gymnasium. The Blue Storm won by a linescore of 25-23, 25-17, 31-29.

A young Mercersburg squad showed great maturity in gutting out the victory, and came from behind in the first and third sets. Zoe Gooch ’20 and Annika Stewart ’21 had solid hitting games with seven kills apiece; each also recorded two aces, and Stewart added eight digs. Morgan Fisher ’23 posted a team-high four aces and added three kills and a block. Finn Sipes ’22 had 13 assists and six digs. Camryn Yeager ’21 went on a six-serve run to help Mercersburg overcome a 23-17 third-set deficit.

Mercersburg has yet to drop a set this season; the Storm swept Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, 3-0, in its season opener September 7.

The Blue Storm returns to action Saturday, September 14, with its first road match of the season at Cumberland Valley Christian School in Chambersburg, Pa. (1:30 p.m.)
