Thompson Posts Low Round at Keystone Cup
Luke Thompson ’21 fired a scorching 74 to earn medalist honors at the 2019 Keystone Cup, which is an annual event played between the boys’ golf teams from Mercersburg, The Hill School, and Kiski School. At the Hershey Country Club East Course October 27, Hill won the team competition with a 417, followed by Kiski at 423 and Mercersburg at 427.
In addition to Thompson’s great round, Argyle Downes ’23 shot an impressive 80. Other Mercersburg scorers included Henry O’Brien ’20 (89), Kenneth Yonke ’22 (91), and Khoi Pham ’22 (93).
“The annual Keystone Cup is always a fantastic event and this year was no exception,” said Mercersburg head coach Doug Smith. “The East Course is a stiff test of golf and it was playing difficult. Luke’s 74 was a tremendous round of golf, and winning medalist at this a event is a feather in his cap for the season. Argyle also turned in a rock-solid 80 in his first Keystone performance. We played well today but just couldn't quite put the scores together to get over the hump.”
Mercersburg finishes its season at the PAISAA Championship Monday, October 28, at Brookside Country Club in Pottstown, Pa.
