Glenn Neufeld has more than 20 years of high school, college, and YMCA coaching experience on the local, national, and international levels; under his tutelage, Mercersburg won the 2016 girls’ Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships. Neufeld is one of just a select group of coaches chosen to lead the Mercersburg program, one that spans over 100 years and has produced 24 Olympians, in addition to numerous collegiate standouts.
Neufeld swam competitively in high school at The Peddie School, Mercersburg’s top swimming rival in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League, and went on to compete at both Lehigh University and Elizabethtown College. With coaching stints at Peddie, the University of Alabama, and the Upper Main Line YMCA (Berwyn, Pa.), the enthusiastic mentor has worked with athletes in many different age groups and settings.
Neufeld guided his high caliber Upper Main Line teams to consistent top five finishes at YMCA Nationals, highlighted by a national championship in 2009. The 2011 YMCA National Coach of the Year coordinated a program that won 44 national titles (29 individual, 15 relay), with more than 120 athletes continuing to the collegiate level to compete.
“At Mercersburg, we’re not just coaching athletes,” Neufeld says.“We’re coaching young men and young women and helping them grow and develop, not just in the pool but out of it as well. Our goal is to produce great swimmers and great kids.”
Neufeld, a native of East Windsor, N.J., is also a member of Mercersburg’s College Counseling department and serves as a dormitory adviser.
