Symptom Check and Temperature Screening


In an attempt to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and to provide a safe work space, Mercersburg Academy will conduct daily health checks and temperature screenings prior to allowing employees to report to their work areas on campus.

How Does This Work?
Employees who have been previously designated by their supervisors for “in-person” campus work will be asked to complete the Daily Health Check survey prior to leaving their home on scheduled work days. The direct link to the survey is available in the faculty and staff portals, as well as on our website at mercersburg.edu/healthcheck. If an employee does not have access to or has issues with technology, there will be an iPad available at the Rutherford Health and Wellness Center mobile screening station so they may complete their daily survey. Once submitted, the employee will receive one of the following electronic prompts:

1) Thank You. Your response has been recorded.  

2) STOP! Do not report to work; instead, call your supervisor and provide them with your status.

Temperature Screening
If you received a “Thank You” response to the Daily Health Check survey, proceed to campus. A mobile screening station will be set up in the circle behind the Health Center (see campus map for preferred traffic flow). 

  • Employees will be expected to wear a mask for this process.

  • Employees are not to leave their vehicle. They will be directed to form a drive-through line that will allow screening staff access to the employee’s forehead, ear, or mouth depending on the thermometer type.  

  • Avoid wearing hats, earphones, or head coverings or drinking hot beverages 15 minutes prior to having your temperature taken, as this could provide inaccurate temperature readings.

  • The Health Center staff taking temperatures will ask employees about the completion of their Daily Health Screening survey. Employees who have not completed the survey will be asked to move their vehicles to a designated area and complete it.

What to Expect?
If you do not have an elevated temperature (100.4° Fahrenheit or higher) and have completed the Daily Health Check survey, you will be directed to report to your assigned work location. Those who have a temperature of 100.4° F or higher will be asked to pull off to a defined location, and the screening staff will again repeat the temperature check after 15 minutes have elapsed. At this time, if you are still noted as having an elevated temperature, you will not be permitted entry onto campus and your direct supervisor will be notified by the nurse on duty.

What if the Daily Health Check instructs me to stay home?
Stay calm; this doesn’t mean you are infected with COVID-19. If you are prompted by the Daily Health Check to stay at home, you should immediately call your supervisor and provide them with your status. If you are not feeling better in a day or two, you should call your medical provider. If you don’t have a medical provider, call an urgent care facility or telemedicine. The Rutherford Health and Wellness Center will not be providing medical services to employees.

Who has access to my Daily Health Check results and temperature screening?
Human Resources is the only department with access to the results of your Daily Health Check survey. The information will only be used if you marked “yes” to any of the symptoms. The results will be stored confidentially in accordance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance. Temperature screening results are only recorded if the temperature registers at 100.4° F or higher.
