Softball Takes Two from Hill on Opening Day
Kayleigh Linn ’22 and Quin Caretti ’24 picked up victories in the circle to lead Mercersburg’s softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival Hill April 17 on Spider Field. The Blue Storm took the opener by a 13–2 count and posted a 16–5 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Cate Vickery ’22 scored three runs and drew two walks. Izzy Jones ’22 was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles; she and Linn drove in three runs apiece. Mercersburg (2–0) scored eight runs in the bottom of the 2nd in support of Linn, who scattered six hits in a complete-game, five-inning victory.
Linn, Jones, Vickery, and Monique Garcia ’22 had two hits apiece in the second game, while Rachel Hull ’23 reached base in all four trips to the plate. Caretti struck out three in her first high-school start.
"After being off for a little over a year, the team came ready to play," Mercersburg head coach Lauren Jacobs said. "It was fun to watch all of their hard work be on display for 10 innings. All 10 girls contributed in some type of way, and the doubleheader sweep was very deserving. They've been such a fun, hard-working group, which makes it even that more deserving for them! There were many highlights, but overall, they executed and were positive the entire day."
Hill falls to 2–3 on the season.
Mercersburg returns to action Saturday, May 1, with a home doubleheader against the Maryland School for the Deaf on Spider Field. First pitch is at noon.
