Mercersburg’s softball team started the 2022 campaign with a solid 16–1 victory over the visiting Maryland School for the Deaf in a game called after four innings March 24 on Spider Field.

Catherine Shaffer ’22 started her Blue Storm softball career with a bang, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of triples, four runs scored, and two RBI. Izzy Jones ’22 went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored. Monique Garcia ’22 scored three runs and drew two walks. Winning pitcher Kayleigh Linn ’22 tossed three innings of shutout ball, striking out four.

Quin Caretti ’24 struck out the side in one inning of relief in the circle.

"It was a good first win of the season, and it was exciting to see all 15 players out on the field together," Mercersburg head coach Lauren Jacobs said. "We made the plays that needed to be made and many of our hits were timely. It's definitely nice to get the first official game under our belt, especially as we start MAPL play on Saturday."

The Blue Storm (1-0) visits the Hun School of Princeton Saturday, March 26, for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Princeton, NJ.
