Several Faculty, Staff Appointed to Additional Roles
As the 2021-2022 school year begins, Mercersburg Academy is announcing a number of changes in roles for different faculty and staff members, as well as a handful of new staff appointments.
Jessica Bontrager will serve as a dean on duty and will continue to serve as an adviser and work in Lenfest Library.
Sarah Bozzi, math faculty, was named interim director of Mercersburg Outdoor Education.
Liam Chatterton, admission faculty, will serve as interim dean of enrollment management.
Tricia Crocker joins the teaching faculty and will teach Positive Psychology, a Springboard capstone course for members of the senior class.
Betsy Cunningham P ’22, ’24 will serve as grade dean for the Class of 2023 and will also oversee the school’s Mentor Leadership program and leadership lab.
Kelly Dowling P ’21, ’21, ’23, arts faculty, was promoted to arts department head and director of theatre.
Sarah Firestone ’13 will join the faculty; she will work in the athletic department as fitness and performance coordinator.
Cindy Fowler was promoted to assistant director of college counseling and will serve as an adviser.
Lauren Jacobs was promoted to interim director of athletics for programs and student experience.
Matt Maurer P ’18, ’20, ’22, ’23, arts and English faculty, will serve as director of arts programming.
Glenn Neufeld was promoted to assistant director of college counseling and is continuing as head swimming coach.
Emily Parsons P ’22 will serve as director of community engagement and continue on the history faculty.
Michele Poacelli P ’24 has been named head of the English department and will continue as director of the Writing Center.
Kim Richards P ’17, ’19 was appointed as the registrar.
Paul Sipes P ’22 was promoted to interim director of athletics for operations and outreach.
Buffi Smith is now working as an administrative assistant for the Office of Campus Safety.
Kimberly Strawoet has moved to the Business Office, where she is working as an accounts payable accountant.
Zach Swope was promoted to interim director of admission.
Holly Trostle P ’22 is now serving as advancement services associate for giving and donor relations.
Haley Tyree’s status changed from staff to faculty, as she has accepted the position of dormitory dean in Fowle Hall. She will continue as the testing coordinator for the college counseling office.
Leela Woody is now the assistant director of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and continues as a member of the English faculty.
New to Mercersburg
Nicole Brown was appointed library assistant.
Madeline Cepeda is serving as Burgin Center operations manager.
Amanda Cunningham is serving as administrative assistant for the office of academics.
Ryanne McFarland was appointed as the alumni and parent relations officer.
Miranda Peruso has been appointed director of annual giving.
Gina Sekula is serving as an administrative assistant for advancement and alumni relations.
Cheryl Selman is working as an administrative assistant for the Head of School's Office.
Mercersburg’s 2021-2022 Opening Convocation was held Sunday, September 5. Classes for the fall term began Monday, September 6.
