Prizes Distributed to Graduating Seniors Before Commencement
In advance of Mercersburg Academy’s 127th Commencement, which will be held virtually Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. Eastern time, a total of 28 members of the senior class have been announced as recipients of academic, extracurricular, and other prizes.
The list includes nine students who earned multiple prizes, including Valedictorian Sean Fiscus ’20 of La Vale, MD (four prizes), and Salutatorian Shannon Fan ’20 of Beijing, China (three prizes). Fiscus received the Colonel D.F. Wills Prize in Economics, which goes to the senior with the highest grade in economics; the Frank Hoffmeier (1896) Scholar/Athlete Prize, for the male student with the highest scholastic average who has also won a varsity letter; the Wilmarth I. Jacobs Physics Prize, for excellence in the study of physics; and the Senior Instrumental Music Prize, for sustained contribution to the success of the instrumental music program.
Fan received the Linear Algebra Prize; the Dance Director’s Award, which goes to a member of the senior class for sustained contribution, dedication, love of, and excellence in all aspects of dance; and the Excellence in Dance Prize.
Other students earning multiple prizes included Rosina Beritela ’20 of Sparks, MD; Aidan Ferrin ’20 of Bozeman, MT; Grace Lewis ’20 of Greencastle, PA; Birdy McDonnell ’20 of Chevy Chase, MD; Maggie Quick ’20 of Denton, MD; Jiachen Sun ’20 of Falls Church, VA; and Natalie Titus ’20 of Mercersburg, PA.
Additionally, a number of special awards will be presented during the Commencement ceremony by Head of School Katie Titus P ’20, ’23.
