Private Schools Indoor Track & Field Invite Features Top Efforts

Against a 44-team field February 1 at the Private Schools Indoor Track & Field Invitational, Mercersburg’s Addie Geitner ’21 and the 4x800m relay team posted near-record-breaking times. The event was held at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, MD.

Geitner placed fourth in the 1000m in a time of 3:14.64, and she was joined by Sarah Grady ’22, Emma Hobbs ’23, and Maddie Schermerhorn ’22 on the 4x800m relay team that took sixth (10:53.01), just missing the indoor school record of 10:50.60. Both performances are second all-time in Mercersburg indoor history in their respective events.

Folake Okunsanya ’22 placed 10th in the girls’ shot put with a throw of 27’ 0”.  It was her best throw ever indoors, good enough to move her into #5 on the school’s all-time indoor rankings for the event. Hannah King ’23 placed 8th in the high jump at 4’ 8”.

For the Blue Storm boys, Aakash Koduru ’20 (4:39.14) and Sean Fiscus ’20 (4:39.25) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1600m . Koduru came back later in the meet to place 10th in the 1000m in a time of 2:50.64 (ranking #5 on the all-time Mercersburg indoor list for that event).  Prithvi Kota ’22 placed sixth in the high jump at 5’ 8”, while Foday Bangura ’22 took sixth in the triple jump at 40’ 2.5”.  Berklee Cohen placed 15th in the 300m in a time of 38.54 seconds and 17th in the 500m in a time of 1:13.66; both of those times rank third on the all-time Mercersburg indoor list.

Mercersburg hosts its final home meet of the indoor season when the Winter Storm Invitational sweeps into the Hale Field House Friday, February 7. The meet begins at 4 p.m. and is scheduled to feature more than 320 athletes from across the Mid-Atlantic.
