At PAISWT, Three Wrestlers Qualify for National Preps
Aurelius Dunbar ’20 took second place at 160 pounds, and Alex Forrester ’23 (106 pounds) and Aiden Lorson ’22 (138 pounds) will join Dunbar at next weekend’s National Prep Wrestling Tournament after their performances at the Pennsylvania Independent School Wrestling Tournament (PAISWT), which was held February 14-15 at Westtown School in West Chester, PA.
In a battle of nationally recognized wrestlers, Wyoming Seminary's Gabe Arnold (31-3) grabbed an early takedown and made the two-point margin stand as he outlasted Dunbar (31-5) for a 3-1 victory. Arnold is projected to enter the National Prep Tournament next weekend with the top seed, while Dunbar should hold his #3 nationals pre-seed.
Dunbar is now a four-time PAISWT state finalist and will wrestle at his fourth National Preps next weekend. He is headed to Penn State.
Forrester (21-12) went 3-2 at 106 pounds to finish sixth at that weight class; he defaulted in his consolation final to Hunter Sloan of Germantown Academy. Forrester recorded the fastest pin of the season by a Mercersburg wrestler, and perhaps the fastest fall of the tournament, with a fall over Noah Stein of Kiski just seven seconds into the match.
Lorson (16-9) reeled off three consecutive wins in the consolation bracket at 138 pounds before falling to nemesis Tyler Mangan of William Penn Charter in the third-place match.
Mercersburg’s trio now travels to Bethlehem, PA, for the National Prep Tournament, the national event for private schools across the country held February 21-22 at Lehigh University. The Blue Storm has participated in the event, which now draws more than 120 schools annually, since 1935.
