Sam Morgan ’19 Signs to Play Soccer at West Virginia

Mercersburg boys’ soccer standout Sam Morgan ’19, who led the Blue Storm with 19 goals in 2018, has signed to continue his soccer career at West Virginia University.
Morgan, a 5-foot-10-inch forward/midfielder from Charles Town, W.Va., will return to his home state for college after earning three varsity letters in soccer for Mercersburg head coach Carl Stensland. He scored 36 goals in three seasons and earned the team’s Most Outstanding Contributions Award as a senior.

During Morgan’s senior season, Mercersburg compiled a 13-4-3 overall record, finished second in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League, and won two games in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools (PAISAA) State Soccer Championship to advance to the semifinals (including a win over No. 1 seed Episcopal Academy).

Morgan played left wing and attacking center midfield for Mercersburg, and was one of three brothers on the varsity team in 2018; his brothers, Diego ’20 and William ’22, are members of the school’s 11th-grade and ninth-grade classes, respectively.

Away from the soccer field, Morgan is a member of Mercersburg’s indoor track & field team and has earned two varsity letters in wrestling. He has also competed for the Blue Storm in outdoor track & field, squash, and tennis.

Morgan is the first athlete in Mercersburg’s Class of 2019 to announce a college commitment. A total of 32 members of the school’s Class of 2018 chose to continue their athletic careers at the college level.
