Fall Pops Concert Held November 10

Members of Mercersburg Academy’s Octet and Magalia (the school’s a cappella vocal groups) and Jazz Band took the stage November 10 for the Fall Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre.

The Jazz Band, directed by Bryan Morgan ’07, performed
Pennsylvania 6-5000 by Sigman & Grey (arr. Berry), Touchin' All The Basses by Andy Clark, Long Lost Friend by Shutack, After You've Gone by Layton (arr. Paul Clark), Well You Needn't by Monk (arr. Kamuf), and Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO (arr. Murtha).

The Jazz band joined with the Mercersburg Chorale for a performance of Africa by Toto (arranged by Emerson).

Magalia, directed by Jim Brinson, performed a variety of songs including Be Thou My Vision, arranged by Keith McKay Evans; Killing Me Softly, arranged by Deke Sharon (who was a guest on campus last year and worked with the a cappella groups); My Church by Michael Busbee and Maren Morris; and Six Feet Under by Billie Eilish.

The Octet, directed by Richard Rotz, performed Pompeii by Dan Smith (arr. Rotz); the traditional De Animals; Good Old A Cappella by Leslie Carter and Susan Carter; Working My Way Back To You by Linzer and Randell (arr. Rotz); Barbara Ann/Rock Around the Clock by The Beach Boys/Freedman and Myers (arr. Rotz); My Girl by Robinson and White (arr. Rotz); and Goodnight Sweetheart by Hudson and Carter.

The Fall Student Music Recital was held November 11 in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Boone Recital Hall.
