Mercersburg Academy’s annual Christmas Candlelight Services were held Sunday, December 10. See a replay of the service at any time on demand. The services are a holiday tradition and traditionally held the Sunday prior to when students depart campus for Winter Break.
See a photo gallery from the service.

Participants in the service included the Rev. William R. Whitmore (Mercersburg’s school minister), who delivered the sermon, “To Tell the Old, Old Story of Jesus and His… Genealogy?”; school carillonneur and organist James Brinson; the Mercersburg Chorale (under the direction of Bryan Morgan ’07), String Ensemble (directed by Michael Cameron), and Chapel Choir (directed by Brinson); and several readers from the Academy and the Borough of Mercersburg.

A carillon prelude by Brinson, as well as seasonal vocal and instrumental music, began one hour prior to each of the two services.

A free-will offering was collected to benefit the Mercersburg Rotary Club’s Santa’s Toy Box program, which purchases gifts for underprivileged children.

One week prior to the Christmas Candlelight Services, the Chapel hosted the fall concert of the Mercersburg Area Community Chorus. Richard Rotz, the Academy’s director of music, also directs the Community Chorus.
