Ahlgren, Curwen, Litzinger Announce College Commitments
Three student-athletes in Mercersburg’s senior class—Jillian Ahlgren ’19, Tag Curwen ’19, and Noah Litzinger ’19—have chosen the destinations where they will continue their athletic careers at the college level. Ahlgren (of Mercersburg) will play lacrosse and field hockey at Gettysburg College; Curwen (also of Mercersburg) is joining the swim team at Pomona College; and Litzinger (of Waynesboro, Pa.), is headed to play football at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Jill Ahlgren lacrosse/field hockey, Gettysburg College 5-10, Mercersburg, Pa. All-Mid-Atlantic Prep League selection in lacrosse (2018) and field hockey (2017 and 2018)… team captain in both sports… also competed for Mercersburg’s varsity basketball and indoor track & field teams… Most Outstanding Contributions Award winner in field hockey as a senior... attended Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore for two years before enrolling at Mercersburg as an 11th grader… played at club level for Diamonds Lacrosse Club... mother, Kristin, is Mercersburg’s head varsity lacrosse coach… two younger siblings, Jake ’21 and Bridget ’22, also attend Mercersburg; Bridget was a teammate on the Blue Storm field hockey team last fall… coached at Mercersburg by Kristin Ahlgren (lacrosse), Doonie Brewer (field hockey), David Grady (indoor track & field), and Paul Sipes (basketball).
Tag Curwen swimming, Pomona College 6-2, Mercersburg, Pa. Team captain… two-year varsity letterwinner… swam in three Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championship finals as an 11th-grader: 400 freestyle relay (8th), 500 free (11th), 200 free (13th)… in 2019, has won the 100 free and 400 free relay in dual meet wins over The Hill School and Fork Union Military Academy… has also played junior-varsity soccer at Mercersburg… dormitory prefect… younger sister, Stapley ’20, also attends Mercersburg and is one of the school’s top divers… coached at Mercersburg by Glenn Neufeld.
Noah Litzinger football, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) 5-10, 190 lbs., LB/RB, Waynesboro, Pa. Team captain and four-year letterwinner… team’s leading rusher as a senior (310 yards, 4.7 yards per carry, three touchdowns)… ranked fourth on the team with 27.5 tackles, including four for loss… three-year varsity letterwinner in baseball; part of three Mid-Atlantic Prep League championship teams in the sport… also played junior-varsity basketball… coached at Mercersburg by Dan Walker (football) and John Lowery Jr. (baseball).
Gettysburg College is in Gettysburg, Pa. (about 45 miles east of Mercersburg); Pomona College is located in Claremont, Calif., and WPI is in Worcester, Mass. All three institutions are NCAA Division III members.
Ahlgren, Curwen, and Litzinger join classmate Sam Morgan ’19 (who committed in December to play soccer at West Virginia University) as student-athletes in the Mercersburg senior class to have announced their college destinations so far.
