This course explores the world of music using drums (timpani, snare drums, bass drums, tom toms, African drums, etc.), cymbals, auxiliary percussion, and mallets. Students will be taught to read rhythms in standard notation and to develop techniques to play together in ensembles that will practice various percussion instruments and rhythms. Opportunities for composition in simple percussion ensembles will be possible, depending on student interest and ability.
This course is designed for students who do not have previous percussion experience. This is not a course in playing a drum set (drum kit).
