Students come to Mercersburg Academy from different cultural and religious backgrounds, and we embrace this diversity on our campus. Therefore, we provide transportation to or sponsor worship services and events for those of other faiths, and use these occasions as teaching moments for the community.
A voluntary, ecumenical service of worship in the Protestant tradition is held each Sunday that school is in session in the Irvine Memorial Chapel, usually at 11 a.m. All are invited and welcome, whether you are a student/faculty or staff member/family member from the Academy community, or from the greater community of Mercersburg or places farther away.
Latin teacher Tom Thorne organizes weekly transportation to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mercersburg for Sunday Mass.
Several churches are within walking distance of campus, including:
First United Methodist Church
Trinity United Church of Christ
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church
Presbyterian Church of the Upper West Conococheague
Congregation B’Nai Abraham is located in Hagerstown; Congregation Sons of Israel is located in Chambersburg. Students wishing to attend these services or others can make travel arrangements through the school minister.
