The Jazz Band follows the traditional big-band format with 14–16 musicians playing saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, guitar, piano, and bass. Students are selected for the Jazz Band from the Band, Chorale, or String Ensemble. The band rehearses twice a week during a normal week’s schedule and performs a broad spectrum of music, ranging from swing to Latin, rock, and pop. It performs two concerts on campus in addition to shorter performances at school functions. The Jazz Band occasionally travels off campus to perform and received an “excellent” rating at the 2016 Hershey Music in the Parks adjudication festival. Bryan Morgan ’07 directs the Jazz Band.
Bryan returns to Mercersburg as a member of the faculty after spending a postgraduate year at the school as a student.
