    The overall result of 2019’s Irving-Marshall Week at Mercersburg? The same as in 2018, and 2017, and 2016, with the John Marshall Literary Society outlasting the rival Washington Irving Literary Society for the fourth year in a row. Marshall won this year by a score of 1350-650 on the strength of a first-place Declamation finish by Elizabeth Heidecker ’19.

    Steven Zhang ’11 has been appointed president of Inter Milan (officially Football Club Internazionale Milano), which is one of the world’s most popular professional soccer teams. Inter Milan has won 18 league championships in Serie A, Italy’s top soccer league. The squad has three UEFA Champions League titles (with its most recent coming in 2010), and is the only club in the 20-team Serie A to never have been relegated to a lower-division league.

    Jayvien Sandridge ’18 was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles June 6 in the 32nd round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Sandridge was a varsity baseball letterwinner all three years at Mercersburg, and helped the Blue Storm to three Mid-Atlantic Prep League titles (the team has won or shared the league crown in each of the past eight seasons).
