Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships recognize students with exceptional academic records, standardized test results, extracurricular participation, and personal character. All incoming domestic applicants are considered for merit scholarships. If identified as a potential candidate, applicants may be provided with an opportunity to further demonstrate their interest in Mercersburg.

  • Lenfest Legacy Scholarship

    Established by H.F. (Gerry) Lenfest ’49, the Legacy Scholarship is awarded to an exceptional child or grandchild of Mercersburg Academy alumni entering the ninth or tenth grade. The Legacy Scholar will be awarded full tuition, room, and board each academic year through graduation.

    Applicants who have completed their application by January 15 and been identified by the admission committee as a potential candidate for the Legacy Scholarship will be notified and given an opportunity to further demonstrate their interest in Mercersburg.

  • Mercersburg Scholarship

    The Mercersburg Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding day-student applicant entering the ninth or tenth grade. The Mercersburg Scholar will be awarded full tuition each academic year through graduation.

    Applicants who have completed their application by January 15 and been identified by the admission committee as a potential candidate for the Mercersburg Scholarship will be notified and given an opportunity to further demonstrate their interest in Mercersburg.
  • 1893 Scholarships

    1893 Scholarships are awarded to a limited number of exceptional student applicants for exemplary citizenship and overall contributions to their current school communities. 1893 Scholars will be awarded up to $15,000 each academic year through graduation.

    1893 Scholars are chosen by the Admission Committee from the general pool of applicants to Mercersburg Academy. Recipients will be notified at the time of their acceptance.

Access Scholarships

Like merit scholarships, access scholarships recognize students with exceptional academic records, standardized test results, extracurricular participation, and personal character. These scholarships also take into account a family's financial situation. If identified as a potential candidate, applicants may be provided with an opportunity to further demonstrate their interest in Mercersburg.

  • Arce Scholarship

    Established by Gabriel Hammond ’97, the Arce Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding boarding-student applicant to the ninth grade. To qualify, the student’s family must qualify for full need-based financial aid. The Arce Scholar is awarded full tuition, room, and board each academic year through graduation.

    Applicants who have completed their application by January 15 and been identified by the admission committee as a potential candidate for the Arce Scholarship will be notified and given an opportunity to further demonstrate their interest in Mercersburg.
  • Guttman Scholarship

    Established by Kathleen and Steve Guttman ’64, the Guttman Scholarship is awarded to a boarding student applicant with exceptional academic ability and whose family qualifies for full need-based financial aid. Preference is given to student applicants from South Florida, though residency in South Florida is not required for consideration. The Guttman Scholar is awarded full tuition, room, and board each academic year through graduation.
  • Hale Scholarship

    Established by Deborah Simon ’74, the Hale Scholarship is awarded to exemplary boarding-student applicants. To qualify, the student’s family must qualify for full need-based financial aid. Hale Scholars are awarded full tuition, room, and board each academic year through graduation.

    Hale Scholars are chosen by the Admission Committee from the general pool of applicants to Mercersburg Academy. Recipients will be notified at the time of their acceptance.
  • Witmer Scholarship

    Established by Jean and Richard Witmer ’70, the Witmer Scholarship is awarded to a Pennsylvania resident for strength of character, leadership, and scholarship. The Witmer Scholar is awarded full tuition, room, and board each academic year through graduation.
