How to Apply

Applying to a new school may seem daunting, but we're available to help every step of the way. Here's everything you need to know about how to apply:
1

Inquiry Form

Filling out an inquiry form helps us connect you with an admission officer and provide you with more information about Mercersburg. You can fill out an inquiry here.

2

Campus Visit and Interview

The interview is a critical part of the admission process. To schedule an interview and campus tour, please contact the Admission Office at 717-328-6173 or admission@mercersburg.edu.
  • Appointment times are typically available on weekdays in the morning or afternoon.
  • If you are unable to visit campus, we also conduct interviews off campus and can make arrangements if we are traveling to your area.
  • Admission officers may also schedule Skype or FaceTime interviews. Contact the Admission Office to make a request.

Application

SAO
We only accept the Standard Application Online (SAO). Please complete and submit your materials by the January 15 deadline to ensure full consideration of your application. Until you submit part or all of your application through the SAO, no information will be transmitted to Mercersburg Academy's Admission Office.

The application components:
  • Student application (including $50 fee for domestic students and $100 fee for students living abroad)
  • Character skills snapshot (optional part of the SAO but encouraged to provide insight into a student's character and personal growth)
  • Transcript(s) with current and previous two years of grades (PG applicants must provide their full high school transcript)
  • Teacher recommendations (English, math, and guidance counselor or principal recommendations required)
  • Fourth recommendation (optional)
  • Standardized test scores (see below)
  • Financial aid application (if applicable)

4

Standardized Testing

We require all students to submit standardized test scores. The required test depends on the grade to which you are applying.
  • Applicants for 9th or 10th grade must submit the SSAT.
  • Applicants for 11th grade must submit the SSAT, PSAT, SAT, or ACT.
  • Applicants for a PG year must submit the SAT or ACT.
  • Non-native English speakers must also submit results from the TOEFL exam.

Important Dates

The deadline for all applicants is January 15. Full consideration is given to those who complete applications by this date. Applications received after this deadline will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

Admission decisions and financial aid awards are sent on March 10. Accepted students and their families are then invited to campus for a Revisit Day, and students are required to notify the Office of Admission of their enrollment decision by April 10.

6

Application Status

To check the status of your application, you will have to log into your SSAT account to view your SAO. Once an item has been submitted through the SAO, we will have access to it and will process the items 3-5 days after submission. The Admission Office will also contact you periodically with updates and reminders. Feel free to contact us at admission@mercersburg.edu or 717-328-6173 with additional questions.

International Admission

Interview and Campus Visit
It is our desire to meet applicants in person during the application process, whether we are traveling to your country or you are making a trip to the United States. (Weekend appointments are not available since school is not in session.) Lodging and travel information is available here. International applicants are asked to complete their on-campus interview by the time Mercersburg begins its winter break on December 19, 2018.

If you cannot travel to Mercersburg Academy and are unable to meet with us during our travel, please contact the Admission Office to request a Skype interview. You must complete the inquiry form and start the application process prior to making this request.

Test Requirements
Both the TOEFL iBT and SSAT are required since Mercersburg Academy does not offer ESL support during the school year, and we want to ensure students have a strong command of the English language. (If other English proficiency tests are taken, please contact the Admission Office to determine whether alternative test results can be accepted.) The Admission Office is looking for TOEFL scores above 90 and SSAT scores above 2100 to show English proficiency.

Summer ESL Program
Mercersburg Academy offers an ESL intensive each summer, open to students entering grades 6-12 who are interested in improving their English proficiency. In recent years, this program has included students from more than 15 countries. Learn more on the ESL Program web page.
