Applying to a new school may seem daunting, but we're here to help every step of the way. Here's all of the information you'll need to apply:
Step One – The Inquiry Form
Submitting your information will help us to assign you an admission officer and include you in our correspondence. In order to begin the process, please fill out the following form: CLICK HERE to inquire online.
Step Two – Schedule Your Tour & Interview
The interview is a critical part of the admission process. If possible, it is important that prospective students visit campus for an official student-led tour and interview with an admission officer. To schedule a campus visit, please contact the Admission Office at 717-328-6173 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If students are unable to visit campus, admission officers may schedule Skype or FaceTime interviews.
Monday, January 16, 2017 - Interview Day Students who have submitted all other application items by January 15, may also complete their interview on Monday, January 16, 2017. On that date, the Admission Office will host an Interview Day for families who have not yet had the time to visit. Please contact us for details.
Step Three – Taking the Right Test
All students are required to submit standardized test scores* as part of the application. The required test depends upon the grade to which the student is applying.
Applicants for 9th/10th grades must submit the SSAT.
Applicants for 11th grade must submit the PSAT, the SAT, or the ACT. The SSAT may also be acceptable.
Applicants for 12th grade or a PG year must submit the SAT or the ACT.
Non-native English speakers: All applicants for which English is not the first language must also submit results from the TOEFL exam.
SSAT School Code – 5026 TOEFL School Code – 0877
*Applicants need to have taken required standardized tests during the current academic year and all scores must be submitted to Mercersburg before the January 15 application deadline.
Step Four – The Application
Mercersburg only accepts Standard Application Online (SAO) from SSAT. We realize that many students apply to multiple schools, and we have decided to move exclusively to the SAO for the convenience of our applicants. You can start your application by visiting ssat.org or clicking the button below.
Required Application Components:
Student Application (including fee - $50 for domestic students & $100 for students living abroad)
Transcript(s) with current and previous 2 years of grades
English Teacher Recommendation
Math Teacher Recommendation
Fourth Recommendation of choice (encouraged, but not required - see below for upload instructions)
*The transcript must include grades from the current school year and the two previous school years. **PG applicants must provide their full high school transcript.
Step Five – Check your application status
To check the status of your application, you will have to log into your SSAT account to view your SAO. Once an item has been submitted through your SSAT account, we will have access to it and will process the items 3-5 days after submission. The Office of Admission will also contact you periodically with updates and reminders. Feel free to contact us at email@example.com or 717-328-6173 with additional questions.
Your application, SSAT score, English, math, and principal recommendations, and transcript will be submitted through your SSAT account. However, there may be additional materials not included in the SSAT application that you would like to submit (e.g. SAT, PSAT, ACT scores, educational evaluation/IEP, or additional recommendations). Any additional documents can be uploaded at www.mercersburg.edu/upload.
Mercersburg Academy highly encourages applicants to submit a fourth recommendation. This person should be someone who knows you well and can attest to you as a person, not just a student in the classroom. You might ask a coach, an extracurricular director, a camp counselor, a teammate, a neighbor, or even your best friend. The only requirement is that the recommender is not someone to whom you are related.
The deadline for all applicants is January 15, 2017.
Notification Date Admission-decision notification and financial aid awards are sent from the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment on March 10. Applications received after the application deadline will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
Admitted students are required to notify the Office of Admission of their enrollment decision by April 10.
