First and foremost, every faculty member at Mercersburg must love working with adolescents. As a truly student-centered school, that 24/7 passion for teaching, coaching, mentoring, living down the hall from, dining with, and “just hanging” with high school-age students is the very wellspring of what separates Mercersburg faculty from the rest. In fact, you could say that it’s what makes Mercersburg Mercersburg.
With 78 of our faculty members holding advanced degrees – including five with doctorates – we know our faculty are second to none in every respect. Mercersburg faculty spend a large part of their summers and breaks updating their skills while exploring the latest teaching pedagogy and classroom-related technologies.
Every year the Academy holds several workshops for faculty with truly noted experts in a variety of fields to assist faculty in staying on top of the developments in the greater field of secondary education. Recent faculty workshops have included presentations by experts on the changing adolescent brain, experiential learning, curriculum design, strategic use of homework, and use of the iPad and social media in the classroom and curriculum development.
More than 200 staff members are an integral part of the campus community, working in departments ranging from athletics and the dining hall to the Health Center, buildings & grounds, security, and administrative offices.
