Actress, playwright, theater educator, and social activist Anu Yadav visited Mercersburg as the second of two residents in this year’s William C. Fowle Forum April 11–13. Yadav presented her one-woman play, Meena’s Dream, to the school in two parts Friday, April 11, and participated in a conversation with School Minister Rev. Dr. Lawrence Jones prior to the Academy’s regular weekly chapel service Sunday, April 13. She also preached at the service.
Yadav, who is based in Washington, D.C., has performed at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Imagination Stage, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Strathmore Mansion, Studio Safdar in Delhi, and the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Beijing. A multiple Artist Fellow of the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, she holds a master of fine arts in performance from the University of Maryland, College Park.

As part of her Fowle residency, she held an April 13 workshop for students on using one’s own experiences as inspiration for writing and performance.

Dr. Tony Campolo, a prominent speaker and pastor and professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University, was the first of two Fowle residents this year. Campolo visited Mercersburg January 10–12.

The Fowle Forum honors the memory of Fowle, who served as Mercersburg’s fourth headmaster (1961 to 1972), and is funded by a gift from the E.E. Ford Foundation which was given to increase the role and visibility of the Chapel on the Mercersburg campus. Previous Fowle residents have included Dr. Lee Barrett of Lancaster Theological Seminary; educator, author, and consultant Rev. Paula Lawrence-Wehmiller; professor and author Dr. Nancy Ammerman; Rabbi Jordi Gendra-Molina of Temple Beth Shalom in Mechanicsburg, Pa.; poet, philosopher, singer, and songwriter Marshall Davis Jones; and former National Football League standout Lorenzo Neal.
