Opening Day: Blue Storm Tops Hill in Baseball, Softball, Boys’ Tennis
For the first time in approximately 14 months, several Mercersburg athletic teams took the field, court, and course in official contests against an opponent from another school. On Saturday, April 17, the Blue Storm tangled with Mid-Atlantic Prep League rival The Hill School in baseball, golf, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, softball, and boys’ tennis.
Mercersburg posted a doubleheader sweep of the Blues in both baseball (3–2 and 4–2) and softball (13–2 and 15–6), and edged Hill 4–3 in boys’ tennis. Hill won the boys’ varsity/girls’ varsity/girls’ JV lacrosse contests as well as golf.
Softball and tennis were played in Mercersburg, with the golf match at nearby Chambersburg Country Club. Baseball and the three lacrosse contests were played on the Hill campus in Pottstown, PA.
All of Mercersburg’s spring athletic contests are scheduled to be played against schools that (like Mercersburg) are following strict COVID-19 mitigation protocols and testing regimens.
As the Mercersburg campus continues to be closed to outside visitors and per agreements with the fellow competitor schools, no external spectators are allowed on campus for athletic competitions. This applies to both home and away contests; employees and students may attend contests while continuing to follow all COVID-19 mitigation protocols.
