A Note from the Community Engagement Team

Wednesday, May 5, 2021

This spring, Mercersburg’s Community Engagement is committed to bringing attention to food insecurity. There are many wonderful local causes, so choosing just one to highlight was difficult, but we knew we wanted to help alleviate food insecurity from the start. Due to the pandemic, people have lost jobs, resources have been stretched thin, and it has become harder for food banks to operate. That’s why we chose Rocket Totes, a meal program in the Tuscarora School District (which includes the borough of Mercersburg), as our fundraiser beneficiary. They’re trustworthy, local, and do tangible good in the community. We want to help make a difference in the community, and Rocket Totes is the perfect way to do that.

In the Tuscarora School District, more than 50 percent of families are on free or reduced-price lunch. Now, imagine those kids when they’re at home and don’t have the luxury of a school meal. That’s where the Rocket Totes program comes in. They give families food to take home so that they don’t have to worry about their next meal. There is usually a waitlist for the program, so your donation is truly appreciated.

Please help us by finding the link on the Veracross parent portal to donate. You can donate $5, $10, $20, $50, or a custom amount. Every donation helps! Thank you!
