Sera Chang ’20 Chosen for PMEA Region Orchestra

Sera Chang ’20, a violinist, has been selected to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Central Region Orchestra Festival, which will be held at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School (in Jersey Shore, Pa.) February 20-22 and will include approximately 100 of the best high-school musicians from more than 40 school districts.
Chang, of Busan, South Korea, auditioned on December 1 at the PMEA District Orchestra Festival at Eastern York Senior High School in Wrightsville, Pa. She was chosen for the district ensemble for the second straight year; she is the first Mercersburg student to successfully audition in back-to-back years since Alec Jones ’15 (who eventually became a member of PMEA’s All-State Band as a French horn player).

Chang performed with the District Orchestra January 10-12 at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg. She will audition for All-State Orchestra at the Region Festival.

The guest conductor for the Region Festival is Maestro Gerardo Edelstein, director of orchestral studies at Penn State University. The festival host is Christopher Lahr, director of instrumental music at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School.

A public concert will be presented on Friday, February 22, at the Williamsport Community Arts Center. Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
