Two Student Musicians Selected for PMEA Orchestra, Upper Band

Mercersburg Academy student instrumentalists Sera Chang ’20 (violin) and Aaron Zheng ’19 (clarinet), have been chosen for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s 2019 District 7 Orchestra and Upper Band.
Chang (of Busan, South Korea) and Zheng (of Shanghai, China) successfully auditioned December 1 at the PMEA auditions, which were held at Eastern York Senior High School in Wrightsville, Pa.

Chang was chosen for the district ensemble for the second straight year; she is the first Mercersburg student to successfully audition in back-to-back years since Alec Jones ’15 (who eventually became a member of PMEA’s All-State Band as a French horn player).

Chang will perform with the District Orchestra January 10-12 at Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, and Zheng will take part in the Upper Band Festival and Concert January 24-26 at Chambersburg Area High School in Chambersburg. Both are eligible to audition for PMEA’s Region V Upper Band and Orchestra (respectively) at the District festivals.

In addition to Chang and Zheng, student violinists John Xu ’22 (of Shanghai, China) and C.J. Hoffman ’22 (of Harrisburg, Pa.) also auditioned.
