Chapel Hosts Community Chorus Concerts December 2–3

The Mercersburg Area Community Chorus gave three performances of its Fall Concert in the Irvine Memorial Chapel Saturday, December 2 (3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), and Sunday, December 3 (3:30 p.m.). Richard Rotz, who is the Academy’s director of music, also directs the Community Chorus.
The concert features Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium, as well as two different pieces titled Magnificat (by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Franz Schubert) and seasonal holiday music. Academy Carillonneur James Brinson gave a carillon recital prior to each performance, and also played the organ during the concert.

The chorus includes more than 100 singers from four different states. Chorus members with Academy ties include Marilyn Houck, who is the school’s head athletic trainer and also serves as president of the Community Chorus’ board of directors, as well as alumni parents Donna Metcalfe (mother of Kathleen Metcalfe Thomas ’06) and Kevin Schoenberger (father of Evan ’13, Emily ’15, and Will ’17, and husband of longtime staff member Kelly Schoenberger).
