The vocal, instrumental, and fine-art talents of the Class of 2019 took the spotlight Friday afternoon, May 24, in the Burgin Center for the Arts.
The Senior Art Reception, held in the Cofrin Gallery, and the Senior Music Recital, held in the Simon Theatre, officially kicked off Commencement Weekend and drew nearly 100 family members, friends, classmates, faculty, and staff.

"I have found this year's senior class to be quite strong," says Arts Department Head Wells Gray. "We are graduating not only a talented group of young adults, but very hard working until their art and music are accepting of their own critical eye and ear."

Ceramic work was displayed by Mary DiLalla, Liam Kick, Noah Litzinger, and Tiffany McGhie; paintings by Jill Ahlgren, Ipek Celikoyar, Gigi Fung, Cherie Sio, Elaigha Vilaysane, Joseph Yonke, and Andrea Yu; printmaking by Gigi Fung; photography by William Kendrick, Katie Owens, Meghan Scott, and Emily Truong; and digital work by Ilyas Clouse, Maddie Kennedy, Casey Nguyen, and Rose Olsen.

Featured vocalists included Grace Bennett, Ilyas Clouse, Jake Furigay, Nevie Gawlik, Seth Hodges, Olivia Keller, Patrice McGloin, Casey Nguyen, Ella Jane Reinhard, and Mathilda Zimmerman. Featured instrumentalists included Julian Bown (trombone), Ilyas Clouse (trombone), Jae Jeon (clarinet), Allen Kim (marimba), Rose Olsen (tenor saxophone), Emily Qian (cello), and Aaron Zheng (clarinet).

"I am so impressed with the quality and talent of our graduating seniors," says Director of the Burgin Center Laurie Mufson. "Their hard work, commitment, and ability to apply all they have learned is evidence of the transference we are so aiming for as educators. Their love and passion for their art and this school is moving."
