Spring Music Concert Held April 27

On April 27, Mercersburg Academy hosted the Spring Music Concert, which showcased the school’s Band, Chorale, and String Ensemble in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre.
Selections by the Band (under the direction of Richard Rotz and Bryan Morgan ’07) included “Gallito” (Santiago Lope, edited by Roy Weger); “St. Louis Blues” (W.C. Handy, arranged by Luther Henderson, adapted by Michael Brown); “Ride” (Samuel R. Hazo); “Highlights from La La Land” (Justin Hurwitz, arranged by Michael Brown); “The Avengers” (Alan Silvestri, arranged by Michael Brown); and “Incantations” (Robert W. Smith).

The Chorale, directed by Morgan and James Brinson, will perform “Build Me Up Buttercup” (McCauley and D'Abo); “Praise His Holy Name!” (Keith Hampton); “The Boy Who Picked Up His Feet to Fly” (Joshua Shank); “Connected (Brian Tate); “Moonlight in Vermont” (Karl Suessdorf); and “Coldest Winter” (made famous by Pentatonix).

The String Ensemble (directed by Michael Cameron) will perform “March to the Scaffold” (Hector Berlioz); “Nordic Suite” (Art Sheinberg); “Fantasia on a Theme” (Thomas Tallis and Ralph Vaughan Williams); “Carrickfergus” (Patrick Roszell); “Korean Folk Tune” (Richard Meyer); “Viva la Vida” (Larry Moore); and “Scheherazade” (Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakoff).

On Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, Stony Batter Players (the school’s student theatre company) will present its Spring Scenes in the Hale Studio Theatre (7:30 p.m.). The Spring Dance Concert will be held the following weekend (Saturday, May 11, 7:30 p.m.) in the Simon Theatre.
