Academy, JBHS Choral Groups Present Joint Concert March 29
Members of James Buchanan High School’s Messa Voce and the Mercersburg Academy Chorale joined together for the second-straight year for a joint concert March 29. This year’s concert was held in the auditorium of James Buchanan High School.
The concert included four pieces performed together; each group also performed three songs individually.
The Mercersburg Chorale (which has 37 members) is directed by Bryan Morgan ’07; Jim Brinson serves as the group’s co-director and accompanist. James Buchanan High School’s Messa Voce (which has 20 members) is directed by Eric Poe. The groups performed together in the Irvine Memorial Chapel in March 2018.
“It is a wonderful experience to be able to get together and sing with such a wonderful group in Messa Voce,” Morgan says. “It is important for all of us to continue to collaborate and strengthen relationships with others in our community. It was so rewarding watching the kids talk, laugh, and connect!”
Songs included Build Me Up Buttercup by Tony McCauley and Michael D’Abo; Connected by Brian Tate; Sure on this Shining Night by Samuel Barber; Afternoon on a Hill by Cynthia Gray; The Boy Who Picked up His Feet to Fly by Joshua Shank; Praise His Holy Name by Keith Hampton; and Moonlight in Vermont by Karl Suessdorf.
“We intend to make this an annual event, providing students an opportunity to combine our voices in making music,” Brinson says.
James Buchanan High School is the public high school in the Tuscarora School District, which serves the borough of Mercersburg and surrounding areas. Approximately 800 students are enrolled at the school.
“This is truly a special night,” Morgan says. “People should experience this!”
