Mercersburg Academy will present the 13th annual Winter Student Choreography Showcase Saturday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre.
The entire showcase is choreographed by and for students, who have been working on these performances since early January. This year’s showcase will feature choreography from 11 dancers: Elizabeth Orders ’25, Kaiya Hoffman ’25, Mikahel Martinez-Arocho ’25, Stella Johnson ’25, Amanda Xi ’25, Tiana Lee ’25, Olivia Short ’23, Maggie Coors ’25, Caroline Hobbs ’26, Kalwa Tembo ’23, and Renee Jin ’26.
Kelsy Rupp, interim director of dance, describes the Winter Student Choreography Showcase as “an informal concert dedicated to showcasing the choreographic talent found among our students here at Mercersburg. Over the years, we have built a robust dance program that encourages student composition and choreography. Providing a safe lower-stakes space for students to present their work is essential. This ensures they have the opportunity to continue building confidence and to keep reaching for the next level.”
The performance provides an opportunity to appreciate student work and is open to the public.
The showcase began in 2011 and initially grew out of a need to share the abundance of talent in Mercersburg’s dance program.
