Williams '25 Wins National Prep Wrestling Title

Marlo Williams '25 captured the championship in the girls' 152 lb. weight class at the 2025 National Prep Wrestling Tournament at Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA) February 22.

Williams advanced steadily through the preliminary rounds, scored an impressive 6-0 win in her semifinal, and defeated Niayla Curley of Northfield Mount Hermon by fall in the second period (3:39 into the match) of the final. Marlo is the first national champ for the Storm since Bobby Burg '11 back in 2011. Cocona Yamamoto '25 also had a strong tournament picking up two wins along the way while Elise Gao '26, Seren Gibbs '28, and Lucy Barker '28 also competed on the girls' side.

Three boys qualified for the event with Gavin Boyd '27 winning three matches, just missing out on placing in the top eight in his division. Nick Rosenberry '28 and Brayden Pearson '27 won one match each.

Head coach Justin Lorson commented, "Marlo Williams winning the championship was certainly the highlight of the tournament and I was very proud of all of our Mercersburg student athletes representing our school well against some of the best competition in the nation. They all worked hard all year and I really look forward to what the future holds for our underclassmen wrestlers. Seniors Marlo Williams and Cocona Yamamoto paved the way the last few years for the Lady Storm wrestlers and they will leave a void, but I am confident that other female wrestlers will continue to work hard and rise to the challenge of filling the voids left by the seniors. Gavin, Brayden and Nick all have multiple years left on the Mercersburg mat along with numerous other standout underclassmen that will surely make some noise in the coming years."

The season is now complete for the Storm wrestling program.
