Volleyball Teams Sweep Holton-Arms

The varsity and JV volleyball teams both defeated visiting Holton-Arms School (Bethesda, MD) October 1.  The JV won by a 2-0 score while the varsity had to rally for a 3-2 win.

Mercersburg (4-3) swept the JV contest with 25-20 and 25-19 set wins, but the teams were pretty evenly balanced overall.

In the varsity match, the Blue Storm (now 3-5 on the season) came out strong, taking the first set 25-20 and building up a big lead of 24-17 in the second, but then things turned south. The Panthers rallied to win the second set 29-27 and then rolled through set three 25-12. Mercersburg has been streaky all year long and after struggling mightily during the middle portion of the match, they caught fire again and took the fourth set 25-17 and the fifth by a score of 15-9.

Morgan Fisher '23 and Alli Caretti '26 played great at the net with 13 and 11 kills respectively.  Caretti also led the team in blocks (4) and aces (6). Rachel Hull '23 and Charlotte D'Arabian '24 anchored the back line with 12 digs each while Priscilla Lee '23 added 10 digs and led the team with 24 assists.

Mercersburg has its third home match in a row on Tuesday, October 4 when St. John's Catholic Prep (Frederick, MD) comes to town to take on the JV team at 5 p.m. with the varsity matchup following at 6 p.m.
