Volleyball Hosts Mercersburg Invitational

The Storm volleyball squad hosted four visiting teams for the all-day Mercersburg Invitational Volleyball tournament September 7, with the home team finishing the day in fourth place.

Mercersburg defeated Virginia Episcopal School (Lynchburg, VA) before falling to Gerstell (Finksburg, MD) in pool play.  In the consolation round, Perkiomen (Pennsburg, MD) defeated the Storm to take third place.

Mary Grady '25 and Alister Caretti '26 led the team in hitting with Caretti producing 15 kills (hitting at a .316 average) and Grady adding 11 kills for a .313 average. Caretti also dished out 14 assists while Sophia Monroy Santiago '28 had 24. Santiago was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. Libero Alyssa Lee '25 also had a solid day with 30 digs on defense and a 96% serve percentage that included 5 aces.

"It was a long day and our early season fatigue started to show", said head coach Amy Lyman. "But the team continues to show great energy, learning from mistakes and giving great effort, even when up against a hard opponent. These things are all in alignment with several of our team goals!"

Mercersburg travels to Fannett-Metal high school (Willow Hill, PA) for its next contest on Wednesday, September 11 at 4:30 pm.
