Mercersburg defeated visiting Hun School (Princeton, NJ) 3-0 September 28 in the first official Mid-Atlantic Prep League volleyball contest in school history.
Volleyball is a MAPL sport for the first time this year, so even though the Storm has squared off against MAPL opponents in the past, this is the first time it has been recognized as an actual, league-sanctioned contest. Mercersburg began its MAPL volleyball experience with an impressive performance, defeating the Raiders by scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17. Jaz Garnett '27 led the attack with 12 kills while Rayna Allen '27 added 7 kills and 9 digs. Libero Alyssa Lee '25 led the team in digs with 11 while Lena Wilkes '27 chipped in 6. Setter Alli Caretti '26 had a great all-around game, recording 19 assists and 12 digs.
Head coach Amy Lyman commented, "This was a great and much needed win for us. How fun to start our first ever MAPL journey with a win! More importantly than winning though, the girls transferred what we have been practicing onto the court during this match. Alli got more consistent in her setting, hitters didn't make mistakes, we got to our defensive positions, and we supported each other with great energy. This is a wonderful group of girls who are just starting to recognize their potential. I am excited for the rest of the season to unfold!"
The Storm is now 2-4 overall, 1-0 in the MAPL, with their next match on the road at nearby McConnellsburg (PA) high school on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:45 pm.
