Varsity Baseball Kicks Off Season With Win Over Springs Mills

An eight-run fourth inning carried the Blue Storm to a 12-2 varsity baseball win over visiting Spring Mills high school (Martinsburg, WV) March 21.

The Cardinals scratched out a run in the top of the first, and led 2-1 in the third before the Mercersburg bats got rolling. Gavin Williams '25 doubled off the right field wall to bring home Caleb Newcomer '23 in the bottom of the third to give the Blue Storm its first lead. In the fourth, Mercersburg sent thirteen batters to the plate and collected eight hits and eight runs to take control of the game. When Williams doubled to center field in the fifth to score Felix Kreis '24, the Blue Storm moved in front by 10 runs and the game was called.

Ryan MacInnes '23 led the offense with three hits while Newcomer, Williams, and Danny Adusei-Poku '23 each had two. Williams had three RBI, followed by Adusei-Poku and Adam Deavers '23 with two apiece.

Arjun Patel '23 was very efficient on the mound for Mercersburg, throwing just 57 pitches in 5 innings of work and scattering 4 hits while picking up 4 strikeouts.

The win was the first for new Blue Storm head coach Josh Edgin '06, who has returned to his alma mater to lead the storied baseball program.

Next up for Mercersburg (1-1) is a Mid-Atlantic Prep League home doubleheader against the Hun School of Princeton, NJ beginning at 1 pm on Saturday, March 25.
