V Volleyball Downs McConnellsburg

Mercersburg defeated McConnellsburg 3-1 in a varsity volleyball contest September 21.

The Blue Storm jumped on top, taking the first set 25-17, but things got considerably tighter after that. McConnellsburg won the second set by a slim 26-24 margin, then Mercersburg pulled out the overall victory with 27-25 and 25-22 wins in set three and four.

Co-Captain Priscilla Lee '23 was one of the heroes with 32 assists and a 94% serve percentage. Serving was a strength all around for the Storm as the team had an 87% success rate from the service line. Co-Captains Morgan Fisher '23 and Rachel Hull also had big nights with 7 aces and 7 kills for Fisher and 13 kills and a .458 hitting percentage for Hull. Eliana Sandy '25 and Alli Caretti '26 were dominant at the net as Sandy had 6 kills with no errors while Caretti had 11 kills and forced many Spartan errors as a middle blocker.  Emily Jiang '24 had two kills and a strong serving and passing night (1.75).  Jiang also "adds a wonderful calming presence to the whole team," according to head coach Amy Lyman.

Lyman added, "A highlight of our team continues to be how well the players who are substituted into the game play when they get in. This is a crucial role, and each of them enters the game and gets the job done. Highlights from last night included Charlotte d'Arabian '24, who passed nails and played strong, aggressive defense along with Freshman Jessica Dang '26, who always jumps off the bench, enters the game cold and gets a strong kill that energizes the team. The sky is the limit for these young ladies!!!

McConnellsburg won the JV contest 2-0.

Both teams are back in action at home against Shalom Christian Academy on Thursday, September 22.  The JV contest begins at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity directly after.
