V Baseball Takes Care of Grace Academy

Caleb Newcomer ’23 struck out eight Grace Academy hitters in four innings of work, and four Mercersburg players drove in two runs apiece as the Blue Storm varsity baseball team knocked off local foe Grace Academy, 14-4, on April 20 at Cannon Field.

The Storm fell behind 1-0 in the top of the 1st inning, but scored three times in the 2nd, once in the 3rd, and twice in the 4th to take a 6-1 lead. After the visiting Knights got three runs back in the top of the 5th to pull within 6-4, Mercersburg responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.

John Blanco ’23, Gavin Williams ’24, Tommy Tereschuk ’22, and Austin Hallberg ’22 each had two RBI. Newcomer didn’t have a hit at the plate, but scored all three times he reached base; he was one of seven different Storm players to be hit by a pitch.

Mercersburg (7-7 overall) visits Mid-Atlantic Prep League foe Peddie School for a doubleheader with the Falcons Saturday, April 23, in Hightstown, NJ. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
