Mercersburg defeated host Lawrenceville (NJ) 1-0 in a girls' varsity soccer match October 5. The victory was the third straight overall for the Storm and second straight in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League.
Lawrenceville dominated possession and actually outshot the Storm 32-3 for the game. But the Mercersburg defense kept fighting, led by center backs Solie Stenger '25 and Lilly Killinger '26. Goalie Annie Mohr '26 collected 24 saves, including a spectacular one late in the game, to keep the Big Red scoreless. Head coach Kristen Pixler called it "the most beautiful save I have seen in high school soccer." Addy Arnsparger '27 scored the lone goal of the game with an assist from Nina McDowell '25, who sent the ball in on a free kick after a Lawrenceville foul. Coach Pixler added, "This team is playing broken, bruised and sick but they keep getting up playing for one another. We have won these games with each other and for one another."
Mercersburg is now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the MAPL with a rematch at Spring Mills high school (Martinsburg, WV) on Thursday, October 10 at 7 pm. The Storm shut out the Cardinals 7-0 at home on September 26.
