The Mercersburg boys' and girls' swim teams defeated LaSalle College high school (Philadelphia) and Mount Saint Joseph's Academy (Flourtown, PA) respectively in a home meet at the Lloyd Aquatic Center January 18. The meet was the final home contest for Director of Swimming Glenn Neufeld and sends him out on a high note.
Both teams got off to a fast start in the relays after opening a bit sluggishly in the Peddie meet a week earlier. The boys' A and B medley relay teams both challenged the pool record. Mercersburg continued to perform well through the individual events, but LaSalle kept the score close on the boys' side heading into the final relay. The Storm once again finished in the top two spots in the 400 free relay, and this time both squads swam times under the pool record to secure the win.
Head coach Matt Hurst commented, "First, I want to thank the home crowd for showing up for our only home meet of the year. It was a great crowd and a great send off for Glenn. The feedback from the coaches and swimmers is that we still have a little bit of work to do, but with 3 1/2 weeks to go until Easterns, I’m feeling pretty confident about where we are and where we’re headed as a program."
Next up for the Storm is the MAPL championship meet at Lawrenceville (NJ) on Saturday, February 1.
