Suhey, Heffron to Speak at Commencement, Baccalaureate

Commencement exercises for the members of Mercersburg Academy’s Class of 2025 will be Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m. on the platform between Keil Hall and South Cottage on campus.

Paul Suhey ’10, cofounder and chief operating officer of Revel, a New York City-based electric vehicle rideshare platform, will present the Commencement address.

Faculty member Rich Heffron, who teaches history and serves as an assistant coach for the boys cross country and boys and girls indoor track & field teams, will be the featured speaker at Baccalaureate, Friday, May 23, at 7 p.m. in the Irvine Memorial Chapel.

Head of School Quentin McDowell P ’25, ’27 will preside over the school’s Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises.

Suhey spearheads Revel’s efforts to accelerate electric vehicle adoption in cities and to develop fast-charging electric vehicle infrastructures.

Before cofounding Revel in 2018, Suhey worked for ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge, LA, and the Gerson Lehrman Group in New York City. His career exemplifies innovation at the intersection of energy and transportation.

During his time as a student at Mercersburg, he participated in golf, wrestling, and football. He declaimed for the Irving Society, served as an usher, and was class marshal.

After Mercersburg, Suhey attended Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with honors. He remains engaged with Penn State, regularly volunteering and speaking to promote entrepreneurship and careers in engineering.

Suhey lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife, Sarah, and son, Dara. His achievements highlight the potential that Mercersburg students have to reshape industries and communities.

Baccalaureate speaker Heffron arrived at Mercersburg from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, where he taught in the Department of Philosophy and Religion. He previously taught at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

During his address, Heffron plans to reference the “incredible and fulfilling experiences” he has enjoyed with the Class of 2025.

“I began my Mercersburg career with this class four years ago, so having the opportunity to address them on the eve of their graduation is the highest honor. I came to Mercersburg from higher education, so I was completely new to boarding school life, which means I’ve learned, grown, and become a part of the Mercersburg community with this group of seniors,” said Heffron, who lives in Tippetts Hall with his wife, Dr. Jenna Heffron, and son, Jude. “For starters, my family and I served as dorm parents to many of the current senior boys. I also made the decision to teach 9th-grade history—at the time Ancient Mediterranean World—rather than 11th-grade American Studies, so I had the opportunity to teach roughly a third of the Class of 2025 my first year. And, finally, I was given a lovely group of 9th-grade boys for my advisory group. Reflecting back on the past four years, it’s clear to me just how much of my Mercersburg experience has been shared with, and shaped by, the graduating class. They’ll always be near and dear to me.”

Indoor seating for and a livestream of both Commencement and Baccalaureate will be available in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre. Both ceremonies will be streamed live online at mercersburg.edu. (In the event of inclement weather, Commencement will be held in the Hale Field House.)
