Members of Mercersburg Academy’s Jazz Band and the school’s a cappella groups (Octet and Magalia) will take the stage for the Spring Pops Concert Friday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre. The performance is free and open to the public.
The Jazz Band, directed by Bryan Morgan ’07, will perform selections including “Fantasy” by Earth, Wind & Fire.
“I’m very excited for our student musicians to perform,” said Morgan. “I always want us to strive to have the Spring Pops be even better than the Fall Pops! Our groups have gelled more each rehearsal. It’s going to be a great show!”
Magalia and Octet, both directed by Jim Brinson, will perform songs arranged by members of each group, including Tyerra Rooffener ’23 and Francis Betkowski ’23. Some song titles are intentionally being kept a surprise until the performance.
Of special note, the two a cappella groups will join together as the Magtet to sing songs in two languages: “Dao Xiang” (Mandarin) and “Sway–Quién Será” (Spanish).
“Once again, I am pleased with how dedicated these students are,” said Brinson. “They enjoy making music together.”
Students will perform the Spring Music Concert Saturday, April 29, in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre. To see more upcoming events, visit this page of the school’s website.
