Gierasch Leads Storm Golf with Season-Best Performance

By Paxton Diana ’26

The Storm golf team made an impressive showing against Kiski last weekend, scoring a team total of 317.

Golfer Cameron Gierasch ’26 had one of his best performances of the season, shooting a 79 in the 18-hole match. Gierasch’s sharp focus and confident course management led the team’s effort.

After shooting one of his season-best scores, Gierasch reflected, “I was able to hit a lot of greens in regulation to give myself some good birdie looks.”

Consistency often comes from momentum that defines a round, and when asked when the match started to click, Gierasch said, “After I made a nice par on one of the difficult par threes, I knew that I was settling into my round and that I was starting to play like I know I could.”

“A big focus for me over the summer was the mental side of golf, and a lot of what I have worked on is self-efficacy and just reminding myself in those moments of pressure that I’ve been there before and I know how to produce results,” he said.

“Earlier this season, it felt like I had a lot of my game together, but I often struggled to flight my wedges and hit greens inside 150 yards,” Gierasch added. “A lot of my practice has been short-game oriented, which has allowed me to make more birdies and fewer bogeys.”

Head Coach Doug Smith praised the athlete’s growth: “Shooting a 79 in an 18-hole match and a 37 halfway through the match is a huge progression from averaging in the mid-50s as a 9th grader to breaking the 80s as a senior captain. It shows an enormous amount of effort.”
