Stony Batter Players to Present 'SIX! the Musical: Teen Edition'

Mercersburg Academy’s Stony Batter Players will present three performances of SIX! the Musical: Teen Edition in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre during the weekend of February 7 and 8.

Show times are Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Reservations are not required, but seats may be reserved at this link. Admission is free.

Through energetic pop and rock-inspired songs, this fast-paced show shares the stories of Henry VIII’s six wives. The humorous, 90-minute techno song and dance party invites the audience to reconsider the "her-story" around these infamous queens.

The show is rated PG/PG-13, due to some double entendre and occasional profanity. Adults are advised to listen to some of the Broadway recordings of SIX beforehand in order to make an informed decision about bringing children to the show, said director Kelly Dowling P ’21, ’21, ’23, arts and English faculty member. Some lyrics are toned down in the teen version, but others are maintained.

Each queen sings a song to explain her life with Henry VIII. All six numbers are in a different musical style.

“There’s going to be a lot of variety to the dancing that goes along with the songs,” Dowling said. “We’ve brought in professional choreographers from various locations, from Baltimore to L.A. to Hawaii. So we’re pretty excited about that, both for the students who get to participate, but for the audience as well, to see that kind of variety.”

While there are typically six featured roles in the show, Mercersburg’s production will have a seventh character, Hans Holbein, portrayed by Keagan Killinger ’28 of Middleburg, VA, who will sing a song traditionally performed by all the queens together.

The queens are:

Catherine of Aragon: Crystal Chiu ’25 of Hong Kong

Anne Boleyn: Claire Chow ’26 of Hong Kong

Jane Seymour: Pema Namdol ’27 of Upper Saddle River, NJ

Anna of Cleves: Nina McDowell ’25 of Mercersburg, PA

Katherine Howard: Keri-Ann Denis ’25 of Arverne, NY

Catherine Parr: Sarah Ali ’25 of Hagerstown, MD

An ensemble includes additional singers and dancers. Several students are also working in stage management and production assistant roles.

Donations will be collected at the show or via the website to benefit WIN Victim Services, a local charity that supports individuals/families experiencing or recovering from domestic and sexual abuse.

The lobby will open 90 minutes prior to curtain, and theater seating will begin 30 minutes before each show. Five minutes before curtain, walk-ins will be allowed to fill in any open seats. Those reserving seats should plan arrival times accordingly.
