Stony Batter Players to Present ‘Mean Girls: The Musical’

Mercersburg Academy’s Stony Batter Players will present Mean Girls: The Musical on February 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre. The production is free and open to the public. Seats can be reserved, and livestream options are available.

“Mean Girls is about the dynamics of social acceptance in high school and beyond. It touches on how any students who are ‘other’ than the social norm are impacted, but especially how the pressure to conform and perform in an ‘acceptable’ way can affect young women,” said arts and English faculty member Kelly Dowling, who is directing the production.

Dowling explained that the show was selected in part because of its suitability for school theatre programs: “Tina Fey, who wrote the original Mean Girls movie and the musical adaptation, was a high school theatre participant. She really understands the needs of schools for shows with a lot of parts for women, scripts that feel timely and fun for teens, and options for adaptations to meet community standards.”

In addition, Dowling expressed pride in the students’ commitment. “We have a smaller cast than last year, so our student performers are working very, very hard to tackle this mammoth show.”

The cast for Mean Girls: The Musical includes the following student performers:

Pedro Abranches Pederneiras ’26 – Aaron Samuels

Jacob Bershatsky ’28 – Mr. Heron / Glen Coco

Claire Chow ’26 – Gretchen Wieners

Nate Cumiskey ’28 – Jason Weems

Keagan Killinger ’28 – Damien Hubbard

Janie Miller ’26 – Cady Heron

Linnea Poulsen ’26 – Principal Duvall / Taylor Wedell / Caroline Krafft

 Ary Small ’27 – Kevin G

Callie Wheat ’29 – Janis Sarkisian

Dowling noted that audiences can also expect “some cameo appearances that will remain a surprise!”
