St. John's Edges Girls' V Lacrosse

St. John's Catholic Prep (Frederick, MD) jumped out to a big lead and then held on for an 11-9 victory over the Blue Storm girls' varsity lacrosse team March 25 in a game played on Regents' Field.

Linley Hill '23 scored in the first minute for Mercersburg, but the Vikings ran off the next five goals to build a 5-1 lead and led 5-2 at the half. St. John's upped their lead to 6-2 early in the second half, but a furious Blue Storm rally over the next five minutes tied the game at 7-all. Unfortunately, the Vikings responded by scoring the next three goals to lead 10-7, before one final Mercersburg spurt got them within one with two minutes to play. St. John's scored one last goal with under a minute left for the 11-9 final.

Zarreen Sorho '23 collected three goals, three assists and three draw controls to lead the Blue Storm offense while Linley Hill also finished with three goals and added an assist and five draw controls. Zareena Sorho '23 contributed two goals, an assist, and three draw controls with Hailey Chepren '23 picking up a goal and an assist. Nora Smith '24 and Emma Hobbs '23 each had one assist while Cameron Dotson '23 anchored the defense and collected six ground balls and Scarlet McArthur '24, making her first start in goal, stopped six shots, several from close range.

Mercersburg (1-2) hosts Saint James (Hagerstown, MD) on Wednesday, March 29 at 4:30 pm.
